The Darker Side of Light: Arts of Privacy,1850-1900

This exhibit is at the National Gallery in Washington until January 18, 2010. Privacy is a good word to include in the title. You felt like you were experiencing a very private space. There were no discussions in the gallery. – Everyone was very quiet. – Almost respectful. My favorite quote about artists is from the modern dancer, Martha Graham who said that “an artists has the ability to objectify what everyone feels”. This show is about very human feelings that are best expressed visually. The show goes to Chicago after leaving Washington.
